Hypnosis Humble Beginnings

Franz Anton Mesmer 1734-1815, a German physician, is called the Father of Hypnosis. Mesmer discovered "magnetism" in the human body and learned how to work with it. He was able to induce a relaxed or mesmerized state in his patients thru repetitive motions and movements. In these "states" he was able to help his patients achieve a greater level of health without the barbaric practice of bloodletting that was popular at that time, mid 1700's.

It is said that Mesmer was able to mesmerize soldiers having to undergo removal of limbs during war without drugs of any kind. It was noted that those that received Mesmers' method healed more quickly and completely than those that did not.

I'll explore the reason in my next post.

Thanks for reading.
